Apple Will Substitute Your Dead ipad tablet for $99

Posted by admin - January 20th, 2012

It seems like Apple has tremendous faith in the electric battery that is in the ipad tablet. Loop Insight is reporting that will Apple;s website says, if your iPad battery pack dies, you need to merely pay $99, and Apple company will replace the complete iPad.

This is very not the same as the existing iPhone substitution policy:

If your iphone 3gs requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge offers diminished, Apple may service your apple iphone for a service fee.

As opposed to the new iPad policy:

If your iPad needs service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electric charge, Apple will replace your apple ipad for a service fee.

I think the is a great insurance plan. We are more than likely to obtain a few dings along with scratches on the iPads, so to be able to get an entire new ipad tablet, if the battery passes away, is amazing. Furthermore, this will probably help save Apple some money within the labor it costs to actually replace the battery in the iPad.

There is the hassle of erasing all your information from the iPad before you send it in for replacement, but I think many people would do that at any rate, for security factors. Besides, you can function a back up within iTunes, before getting rid of everything. [via Loop Insight & Gizmodo]

    First, the optimal policy:

For the cutoff r, we want the probability that the best candidate is chosen. If person j is that person, then:

    1) j ≥ r. That is, j cannot be one of the r-1 rejects.
    2) j is the best means that if all n were ranked, j would be #1. There are n! possible rankings, and (n-1)! rankings with person j ranked #1. That is, the probability person j is the best candidate with probability 1/n.
    3) j is the first candidate after the cutoff that ranks better than the r-1 rejects. Another way of saying this is that if we had a ranking of the first j-1 candidates, one of the rejected r-1 candidates would top the list. This happens with probability (r-1) / (j-1).

    That gives

    P(r) = (r-1) / n Σ (j from r to n) 1 / (j – 1).

Now we interpret this as a Riemann sum. First, multiply and divide by n inside the sum:

    (r-1) / n Σ (j from r to n) 1 / (j – 1)
    = (r-1) / n Σ (j from r to n) [n/(j - 1)] (1/n)

    Let x(j) = (j – 1)/n, r ≤ j ≤ n. Then n/(j-1) = 1/t(j). This suggests that f(t) = 1/t.

    Then t(j) – t(j-1) = j/n – (j-1)/n = 1/n = ∆t.

    Suppose that as n → ∞, r/n → x. Then the left endpoint

    t(r) = (r-1)/n → x as n → ∞.

    The right endpoint

    t(n) = (n-1)/n → 1 as n → ∞.

This suggests the limits x and 1 on the resulting integral.

This is very close to partitioning the interval [x,1] into n-r+1 subintervals of length 1/n (this part is not necessarily exact), and doing left endpoint evaluation on each interval.

    Then as n → ∞:

    = (r-1) / n Σ (j from r to n) [n/(j - 1)] (1/n)
    = (r-1) / n Σ (j from r to n) f(t(j)) ∆t
    → x ∫ (from x to 1) f(t) dt
    = x ∫ (from x to 1) 1/t dt.

    Hope this helps.
